We have a brave vision of a sustainable Jamboree

Sustainability is the ability to meet current needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs, balancing environmental, social, and economic factors.

Our vision is to have a Jamboree where scouts, through their brave actions, think about others by respecting the environment and by making use of minimal natural material so as not to cause harm to the environment. Living a simple lifestyle where we make sure that there is no needless overconsumption of resources.

At the 26th World Scout Jamboree, sustainability will be at the heart of everything we do. Our dream is to host an event that meets today’s needs without harming the ability of future generations to meet theirs. This means balancing care for the environment, supporting people and communities, and making smart economic choices.

Sustainability is not just about reducing waste and emissions – it’s also about how we live and work together. During the Jamboree, participants will explore four clusters of sustainability:

• Material Life Cycle,
• Emissions,
• Social,

Each Contingent, together with the Jamboree Organisation, has the responsibility to act responsibly and minimise their environmental impact.

From using fewer single-use plastics and choosing sustainable transport, to creating an inclusive and welcoming community, every action matters. By working together, we can live simply, respect nature, and ensure that the Jamboree leaves a positive legacy for Scouts, local communities, and the world.

Firstly, we focus specifically on travel because it is often the largest source of emissions and a key area where Contingents can start planning and acting early. However, this is just the beginning.

Traveling Sustainably to the World Scout Jamboree in Poland

Attending a World Scout Jamboree is a once-in-a-lifetime experience — a celebration of friendship, learning, and global community. But as Scouts, we also have a responsibility to care for our planet. One of the biggest impacts of international events like the Jamboree is the carbon footprint created by travel.

With Contingents coming from every corner of the globe, making sustainable travel choices is one of the most powerful ways we can reduce our environmental impact.

Here’s how you and your Contingent can make your journey to Poland as sustainable as possible — wherever in the world you’re coming from:  — wherever in the world you’re coming from:

 1. Rethink the Way You Travel — If You Can, Go Overland

For European Contingents and nearby regions:
 If your journey to Poland is less than 2,000 km, the most sustainable option is almost always to travel by train, coach, or bus instead of flying. Rail travel produces up to 90% less CO₂ than flying the same distance. Consider organising a group train journey or a chartered coach to travel together. Not only does this significantly lower emissions, but it also extends the Jamboree spirit — the adventure begins the moment you leave home!

• Trains: Use Europe’s extensive rail network and combine international trains with local services.
• Coaches: For groups, coaches can be efficient and cost-effective.
• Local travel: Once in Poland, use public transport, or shared shuttles to reach the Jamboree site.

 2. If Flying Is Necessary — Make It as Green as Possible

For intercontinental Contingents:
Flying may be the only practical way to reach Poland. But there are still ways to reduce your impact:

• Select airlines with modern, fuel-efficient fleets: Some airlines invest in more efficient aircraft and use sustainable aviation fuels (SAF).
• Offset your emissions responsibly: Many organisations offer carbon offsetting for flights — but choose certified projects that provide long-term climate benefits and social value (e.g., reforestation, renewable energy in developing regions).
• Travel light: Every kilogram on board increases fuel use. Packing minimally as a group reduces total emissions.

 3. Combine Your Jamboree Journey with a Sustainable Programme

Instead of viewing the trip as a simple return flight, consider integrating educational and environmental activities into your travel:

• Climate action projects: Partner with local Scouts or NGOs along your preparations for tree planting, clean-ups, or biodiversity projects.
• Stopovers with purpose: If you need a layover, use it to visit a sustainability-focused site or museum, or to connect with local Scout groups.
• Carbon literacy workshops: Teach participants about the climate impact of travel and empower them to make low-impact choices in the future.

4. Travel as a Team — and Think Beyond the Jamboree

Group travel isn’t just fun — it’s also more sustainable. Coordinating transport reduces per-person emissions and often costs less. And the impact doesn’t stop when the Jamboree ends: consider how participants return home and how lessons learned about sustainable mobility can inspire action in your own communities.

• Group bookings can unlock discounts on trains or buses.
• Shared luggage and equipment means fewer resources are needed.
• Post-Jamboree sustainability goals help Scouts continue the journey toward climate action at home.

 5. Lead by Example — Scouts as Climate Stewards

The World Scout Jamboree is more than just an event — it’s a symbol of our commitment to building a better world. By choosing sustainable travel options, we show that Scouting is serious about tackling the climate crisis. Each small decision — from taking the train instead of a plane, to offsetting a necessary flight, to sharing a bus with another Contingent — adds up to a global difference.

La sostenibilidad es la capacidad de satisfacer las necesidades actuales sin comprometer la capacidad de las generaciones futuras para satisfacer sus propias necesidades, equilibrando los factores ambientales, sociales y económicos.

Nuestra visión es tener un Jamboree en el que los Scouts, a través de sus valientes acciones, piensen en los demás respetando el medio ambiente y utilizando el mínimo de materiales naturales para no causar daño al medio ambiente. Llevar un estilo de vida sencillo en el que nos aseguremos de que no haya un consumo innecesario o excesivo de recursos.

En el 26º Jamboree Scout Mundial, la sostenibilidad será el eje central de todo lo que hagamos. Nuestro sueño es organizar un evento que satisfaga las necesidades actuales sin perjudicar la capacidad de las generaciones futuras para satisfacer las suyas. Esto significa encontrar el equilibrio entre el cuidado del medio ambiente, el apoyo a las personas y las comunidades, y la toma de decisiones económicas inteligentes.

La sostenibilidad no se limita a reducir los residuos y las emisiones, sino que también tiene que ver con cómo vivimos y trabajamos juntos. Durante el Jamboree, los participantes explorarán cuatro grupos de sostenibilidad:

Desde utilizar menos plásticos de un solo uso y elegir medios de transporte sostenibles hasta crear una comunidad inclusiva y acogedora, cada acción cuenta. Trabajando juntos, podemos vivir de forma sencilla, respetar la naturaleza y garantizar que el Jamboree deje un legado positivo para los Scouts, las comunidades locales y el mundo.

En primer lugar, nos centramos específicamente en los viajes, ya que suelen ser la mayor fuente de emisiones y un área clave en la que los contingentes pueden empezar a planificar y actuar con antelación. Sin embargo, esto es solo el principio.

Viajar de forma sostenible al Jamboree Scout Mundial en Polonia

Asistir a un Jamboree Scout Mundial es una experiencia única en la vida, una celebración de la amistad, el aprendizaje y la comunidad global. Pero como Scouts, también tenemos la responsabilidad de cuidar nuestro planeta. Uno de los mayores impactos de los eventos internacionales como el Jamboree es la huella de carbono que generan los viajes.

Con contingentes procedentes de todos los rincones del mundo, tomar decisiones de viaje sostenibles es una de las formas más eficaces de reducir nuestro impacto medioambiental.

A continuación te explicamos cómo tú y tu contingente pueden hacer que su viaje a Polonia sea lo más sostenible posible, independientemente del lugar del mundo del que vengan: — independientemente del lugar del mundo del que vengan:

1.  Reconsidera tu forma de viajar: si puedes, viaja por tierra

Para los contingentes europeos y regiones cercanas:

Si tu viaje a Polonia es inferior a 2000 km, la opción más sostenible es casi siempre viajar en tren, autocar o autobús en lugar de en avión. Los viajes en tren producen hasta un 90 % menos de CO₂ que los vuelos de la misma distancia. Considera la posibilidad de organizar un viaje grupal en tren o un autocar rentado para viajar juntos. No solo esto reduce significativamente las emisiones, sino que también amplía el espíritu del Jamboree: ¡la aventura comienza en el momento en que sales de casa!

• Trenes: Utiliza la extensa red ferroviaria europea y combina trenes internacionales con servicios locales.
• Autocares: para grupos, los autocares pueden ser eficientes y rentables.
• Viajes locales: Una vez en Polonia, utiliza el transporte público o los autobuses compartidos para llegar al sitio del Jamboree.

2.  Si es necesario volar, hazlo de la forma más ecológica posible

Para los contingentes intercontinentales:

Puede que volar sea la única forma práctica de llegar a Polonia. Pero aun así hay formas de reducir su impacto:

• Selecciona aerolíneas con flotas modernas y eficientes en cuanto al consumo de combustible: algunas aerolíneas invierten en aviones más eficientes y utilizan combustibles de aviación sostenibles (SAF).
• Compensa tus emisiones de forma responsable: muchas organizaciones ofrecen compensación de carbono para vuelos, pero elige proyectos certificados que proporcionen beneficios climáticos y valor social a largo plazo (por ejemplo, reforestación, energías renovables en regiones en desarrollo).
• Viaja ligero: cada kilogramo a bordo aumenta el consumo de combustible. Llevar el mínimo equipaje posible como grupo reduce las emisiones totales.

3.  Combina tu viaje al Jamboree con un programa sostenible

En lugar de considerar el viaje como un simple vuelo de ida y vuelta, piensa en integrar actividades educativas y medioambientales en tu viaje:

• Proyectos de acción climática: colabora con Scouts u ONGs locales durante tus preparativos para plantar árboles, realizar limpiezas o llevar a cabo proyectos de biodiversidad.
• Escalas con un propósito: si necesitas hacer una escala, aprovéchala para visitar un lugar o museo centrado en la sostenibilidad, o para conectar con grupos Scouts locales.
• Talleres de concienciación sobre el carbono: enseña a los participantes el impacto climático de los viajes y empodéralos para que tomen decisiones de bajo impacto en el futuro.

4.  Viaja en equipo y piensa más allá del Jamboree

Los viajes en grupo no solo son divertidos, sino que también son más sostenibles. Coordinar el transporte reduce las emisiones por persona y, a menudo, cuesta menos. Y el impacto no se detiene cuando termina el Jamboree: piensa en cómo regresan los participantes a casa y cómo las lecciones aprendidas sobre movilidad sostenible pueden inspirar acciones en tus propias comunidades.

• Las reservas en grupo pueden ofrecer descuentos en trenes o
• Compartir equipaje y material significa que se necesitan menos recursos.
• Los objetivos de sostenibilidad posteriores al Jamboree ayudan a los Scouts a continuar el camino hacia la acción climática en sus hogares.

5.  Predicar con el ejemplo: los Scouts como guardianes del clima

El Jamboree Scout Mundial es más que un simple evento: es un símbolo de nuestro compromiso con la construcción de un mundo mejor. Al elegir opciones de viaje sostenibles, demostramos que el escultismo se toma en serio la lucha contra la crisis climática. Cada pequeña decisión —desde tomar el tren en lugar del avión, compensar un vuelo necesario o compartir un autobús con otro contingente— contribuye a marcar una diferencia global.
